Artist's Statement

 

This series of drawings was a surprise -- a gift, really -- that grew out of the unexpected isolation of 2020. Masks became the necessary new normal, accessories that, unfortunately, conceal much of the expressive content of faces. 

 

So, using myself as a handy model and guided by prompts from friends, I decided to work with masks as a playful stage for my imagination. It's been challenging .... and fun!
